Review

Ridley Scott directs this fast moving action adventure about the disastrous mission in Somalia on October 3, 1993 where nearly 100 U.S. Army Rangers, commanded by Capt. Mike Steele, were dropped by helicopter deep into the capital city of Mogadishu to capture two top lieutenants of a Somali warlord which leads to a large and chaotic firefight between the Rangers and hundreds of Somali gunmen which destroys two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters in Mogadishu.

This is indeed a fantastic film, gripping from start to finish. I decided to buy it on Blu Ray after reading some of these reviews because of that fact, but have been sorely disappointed. I spend a lot of time defending BR from people who can't see the difference and everything I've bought so far has been demonstrably improved. However, with this film, it's really not easy to see. Yes, in the slow sections, the occasional long shot, you can find yourself thinking that it's slightly improved, but the impact is definitely muted. For such a great film, it's a real let down not to be impressed by this. If you've got the DVD, stick with it.

i'm sure that, if you have never watched this one, you'll have heard about it, the hype ? it's all true....this is one of the 'greats' in terms of war-movies.
it follows a raid by the 'u.s' to capture the infamous war lord who was over-seeing the misery of his own people in 'somalia'
the raid, which is an account of true events, goes horribly wrong when a 'black hawk' is shot down.
this starts a chain of events which see's 'u.s' ranger-units trying to get their comrades out of the danger zone, several units become pinned down as hundreds of 'somalian's' attack.
it truely becomes a 'bloody'' affair.
the americans had entered the country in an attempt to give the people stability, instead they walked into a hornets nest.
this is, truly, one of the best war films put onto the silver screen.
